Tojo and i
A few days ago, i went Tojo’s! For those of you who don’t who Hidekazu Tojo is, he is a world class sushi chef. He owns restaurants in Japan, Vancouver, BC and California. Tojo has been credited in created rolls such as the California roll and B.C roll. Most celebrity chefs own restaurants but don’t work in them, but at Tojo’s there was an open kitchen and you can see Tojo and the other chefs making the food!
the dessert was this sesame jelly (it was so good)
And the best part of the night was when Tojo gave my a pair of special chopsticks (they are my most prized possession)
- Nabe [ pronounced navay] is a big Japanese hot-pot. We had a nabe party and invited about 10 people and made to hot pots, one vegetarian and one non vegetarian. There really is no recipe to nabe, but some of the ingredients include;
- fish cakes/fish balls
- lotus root
- dikon radish
- udon noodles
- shiitake mushrooms
- duck, pork and beef
- negi [leek]
you can get most of thees ingredients at T&T and other asian markets.
you can buy the broth pre-made or use this recipe:
- 6 cups dashi [ special japanese soup]
- 1/4 soy sauce
- 1/4 sake
2 teaspoons salt
all you need to do is bring it to a boil and add the ingredients
some things you can serve on the side are takoyaki and miso soup and for dessert mochi.
P.S if you have a big party, buy 1 or 2 burners but make sure you keep a few windows open
